A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph a Sweet 16 birthday party and oh my goodness was it great. I told the family, who happen to be my neighbors, that they have definitely raised the bar on birthday parties for all of us with soon to be 16 year olds. 🙂
The party took place in the early evening on a beautiful fall day. You seriously could not have asked for better weather. The event was held in the family’s backyard and everything was so festive. Purple balloons blew in the breeze while candles and flowers adorned each table. The kids were all asked to dress up and they came dressed to the nines.
The birthday girl (or young lady…she is 16 after all), was radiant. She looked gorgeous in her beautiful purple gown and had a smile that was nonstop. She was a gracious host and you could tell by the interactions she had with her friends that she is a well-loved girl.
I brought along some photo props including frames, mustaches and lips and everyone seemed to have a great time hamming it up for my camera.
When I asked the group if they would mind doing my favorite Non Pose Pose, they happily obliged….although I think they might of thought I was a bit off my rocker. But they all politely let me lead them into formation and patiently waited while I set up the shot. It was a big group but I think it was worth the effort.
Taking photos at this very festive party was so enjoyable for me. Being around this great group of kids and watching them interact and have fun was such a treat. I think the birthday girl’s parents were able to enjoy the party more too. They were not worried about getting a bunch of photos (although they were snapping away) and they were able to concentrate on other aspects of the event as well as actually participate and help celebrate their daughter’s special day.
