Planning a personal branding photo shoot can be so exciting! There are so many creative ways to show who you are and what you do but before you jump into the fun, creative part of planning your shoot, you do need to ask yourself a few questions. In doing so you will have a better idea of the types of images you need to create and it will help you make the most out of your personal brand photography session.
So grab a notebook and pen and answer these questions (and be sure to discuss your findings with your photographer):
- What are your goals and objectives? This may seem obvious but it is important to think about your business goals and objectives so that you can create images that support those needs. Are you promoting a new product? Are you starting a newsletter? Are you updating your website? Are you wanting to grow your Instagram following? Do you need more content for your Facebook page? Are you launching a podcast? All of these answers will help guide the types of images you need to create.
- Where will you be using your images? This is important to think about because depending on the platform, you will have different needs. Are you using the photos on your website, Instagram, Facebook, media kit or catalog? Will you be adding text to your images? Answering these questions will help determine how your images should be shot: for example incorporating negative space, shooting landscape or portrait, or if your images should be shot up close or wide.
- What color palette reflects your brand? Color plays a big role in how your brand is received and you should aim to create a cohesive look. If your website has primary colors then consider wearing those colors for your photo shoot too. If you have a light airy look, then go for pastels. Also keep in mind the color palette when deciding on a location. A dark coffee shop may not be the best spot for a brand that has a light and airy feel.
- What style do you want your images to evoke? Think in terms of the vibe you want to create…do you want your images to have an edgy, romantic or classic feel? The style will help you determine the location, your wardrobe, and even props.
Keeping these things in mind will help you create images that will meet your visual content goals.
