Last week I had one of my most memorable photo sessions. It started off like a typical session…. a beautiful family, gorgeous location and everyone willing and eager to smile for my camera.
Everything was going smoothly…we moved effortlessly from the hiking path to the white fence to my favorite spot, an old fallen tree down by the creek.
I captured a few shots of everyone together in front of the tree and then decided that I wanted to add some interest and stagger everyone. Well, that was a mistake. Little did I know that there was a wasp nest located in the tree and our activity disrupted them and sent them attacking.
It was like a page out of Winnie The Pooh with the swarm of wasps (instead of bees) chasing after us. We all went running and screaming hoping to outrun their stings but unfortunately we all got stung at least once. I have to admit it was quite scary and I felt awful that my suggestion resulted in such a fiasco.
Thankfully no one was allergic and after we were out of harm’s way, we all had a good laugh. Despite the burning sensation from the stings (I ended up with eleven, the mom had eight and the rest of the gang all ended up with at least one or two) we decided the show must go on and we continued with our session.
As we continued and chatted about the crazy turn of events, a couple of women passed us on the path walking their goat (there is an animal farm at the park). And as you can probably guess, we just had to incorporate this little creature into our session.
So please check out the photos below of my late afternoon with this wonderful, fun-loving, good-natured and quick footed family. I especially love the photos of the wasp attack reenactment. A huge thank you to the S. Family for being so terrific….you made what could have been a terrible situation, a memorable one.
