This year for Mother’s Day, my husband gave me an early gift…two tickets to Oysterfest in San Francisco. I am not a big fan of oysters, however I am a HUGE fan of the headlining band, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (if you are not familiar with their music you must go check them out!). Needless to say I was super excited for our day in the city and while I didn’t want to drag my big camera around to capture the day, I was happy to do so with my iPhone. And in case you are wondering, my kids are not fans of this music nor oysters so they were happy to stay home.
It was a beautiful day and after settling into our little patch of grass at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park, we enjoyed the music from the opening bands Ra Ra Riot and Poolside. San Francisco is always a great place for people watching as you will see from the photo below where one couple practiced yoga in the middle of the crowd. After awhile we decided to try the oysters which were surprisingly good especially when covered with lots of sauce.
But the highlight of my day (besides hanging out with my awesome husband and listening to one of my favorite bands ever), was when I actually met the lead singer, Alex, from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Yes, I was one of those groupies, hanging out by the gate after the concert hoping he’d come out and say “hello” to his fans. And within minutes he did. Thankfully the security guard said to me, “If you want a photo, you gotta ask.” So I worked up the nerve and I did. I shouted out, “Hey Alex, I’m here as an early Mother’s Day gift and I have 4 kids, can I have a hug?” And he walked straight up to me and gave me a big squeeze (as you will see in the photo where I nuzzled right into his shoulder).
And yeah….I am still a bit giddy. After you have checked out my photos below (and don’t forget to listen to my favorite song linked below too), be sure to hop on over and see the beautiful work of Micah Hewett Images.
Here is one of my favorite songs….I swear it makes me tear up every time I hear it….
