10 on 10 December | Christmas Still Lifes

Ever since I returned from the Gather photography retreat, I’ve been yearning to play with my camera but (thankfully) I’ve been very busy with holiday photo shoots for clients.  This week however, I had a break in my schedule and decided to pull out some of my Christmas goodies and shoot just for the sake of doing something creative.   I gave myself an hour in-between picking up the kids from school and starting dinner to just play.

Kim Klassen’s My Still Sunday series was my inspiration.  Have you seen her work?  Oh my goodness, she is amazing!  If you are on Instagram you should definitely check out the #mystillsundaycompetition….its a fun little still life photo competition that Kim started on IG and there are so many amazing, beautiful photos that I know you’ll love.

Anyway, below you’ll see my attempt at still life photography.  Some of the ornaments pictured are so very special to me.  The heart is one that my mom made for me out of lace scraps from my wedding dress (which she also made) and the snowflake was hand crocheted by my grandmother (who will be turning 95 next month).

I’m so glad I took this time to capture these images.  It was a very fulfilling way to spend a part of my day….creating photos just for the sake of creating.  After you’ve looked through my images, please continue through our photography circle and check out the gorgeous work of Stacey Griffin.

So… I turned a pool ring and a bin of old garlands into a Christmas wreath and honestly, I’m feeling pretty proud of myself right now. 😂 Who knew this pink pool float could transform into a holiday wreath?

You know I love photography, but give me a craft project and I get super excited. This little DIY was easy, budget-friendly, and now my barn is looking sooo festive!

Am I the only one NOT ready for Christmas decor yet? 🍂

I’m still enjoying fall colors, pumpkins, and gold candles. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that Thanksgiving is next week!

I just want to enjoy this season a bit longer before the twinkle lights take over.

Tell me I’m not alone — are you already decorating for Christmas or savoring fall with me? 🤎

Want to know a secret? I’m a big believer in taking little check-in breaks during my branding shoots. It’s a chance for you to catch your breath, see a few images on the back of the camera, and make sure everything feels on track. I want you to love how you look and feel during your session, so these quick pauses help us tweak anything—from hair to posing to the overall vibe. It keeps things relaxed, fun, and totally you.

Ready to get photos you actually love? Let’s get your session booked!
